The Abbey of Montelabate belongs to the Gerolamo Gaslini Foundation, based in Genova. The foundation was created in 1949 in order to constantly assure the financial means for the activities of the Giannina Gaslini Institute.
This institute is an important Paediatric Hospital, esteemed all over the world, opened in 1938 and aimed at "healing, protecting and assisting children". The creation of the hospital was totally financed by Senator Gaslini.
The Gerolamo Gaslini Foundation's activities are devoted to the empowerment of the hospital structure and to the progress of the scientific reserach, thus respecting the founder's will.
